Crash Bandicoot

Mysteries - Prototype

Cliff level

Another side-scrolling segment that borrows a few things from the waterfall level, except now Crash is going down rather than up.

Mystery
Video submitted by Prezentxx.
Recorded through an emulator with save states.

Mystery
Crash starts out in front of a dense jungle. He must move toward the screen and go right to begin his sideways descent across the cliff.

Mystery
Unlike the waterfall level, this one seems to be practically complete when it comes to graphics. Crash jumps across rocky protuberances to make his way down. Some tree roots stick out of the soil, which shows some attention to detail.

Mystery
There are trees growing in the dirt that provide branches as as platforms. Like the watefall level, this one has turtles and skunks too.

Mystery
Some big rocks will fall down if Crash gets close to them. The distance required for this to happen is considerably big, so they're not very dangerous.

The video shows a small slowdown halfway through, after which some textures become garbled or missing, such as Crash's back or his spin attack.

Mystery
One of the game's trademark elements: a glimpse of the other islands in the background. You can see the second and third islands in the horizon, so you can tell this level was supposed to have gone into the first one. Some tree branches seem to serve as trampolines. You can see a bird nest with some eggs as part of the scenery.

Mystery
The further you go down, the more you'll notice N. Sanity Beach in the background.

Mystery
The dingo from the waterfall level is back and just as unfinished as ever, though it does seem to turn around when Crash gets near it.

Mystery
Also back is the breakable barricade.
