Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy - Hang Eight

Hang Eight was the first Crash 2 level revealed in motion through an official trailer. The level layout was already finished, but the lighting and textures would undergo several changes before becoming the way they are in the final version.

Note: The screenshots in this page alternate between the prototype shown in the trailer and the final version for comparison.

The temples that warp Crash in and out of the level used to look drastically different, due to the more basic lighting and old textures. You may also notice that Crash's warping animation was very crude.

Various Changes

  • Besides the different lighting, it's evident that the stone platforms used to look cleaner and duller. The final ones not only look mossier but are also cracked to show their age.
  • The crates themselves look different. Their old textures made them look too bright and muted. The Aku Aku crates used recycled artwork from Skylanders Imaginators before the developers settled on the final version (which, curiously enough, seems based on the Aku Aku icon seen in the map from the Crash 1 prototype).
  • The plants also had different textures at the time. Their leaves had a very solid green.

Bonus Round

The bonus round is mostly identical, but you can definitely see some changes with the trees. Some of them had slightly different shapes and textures, along with smaller mushrooms growing out of them.

Music

The music in the trailer's build is slightly different. The final version sometimes reuses samples from the original Crash 2 instead of some of the surf rock riffs heard here.
