Crash Nitro Kart - Unused Content - Demo
The Crash Nitro Kart demo lets you play the tracks Jungle Boogie and Out of Time as either Crash, Coco, Crunch, Cortex, N. Gin, Tiny, Oxide or N. Trance. A number of differences between the demo and the final version can be spotted.
Early Icons
(contributed by Crashpro3)The early characters icons are used in the demo.
Crash's Voice
(contributed by Crashpro3)The demo features Crash with a deeper voice. All of his voice effects were sped up for the final version, but the original ones were still kept for the Game Boy Advance.
Meteor and Planet Paint Job
(contributed by Crashpro3 and Bruno)- A meteor would orbit Velo's coliseum in the main menu's background.
- The planet on the left has an orange tone instead of purple.
Shield
The shield has less frames of animation and takes a bit longer to disappear after something touches it.
Fumes
The fumes from the exhaust pipe suddenly change to black when powersliding, rather than fading smoothly.
Animations
The characters lack their stopped animations. The idle animations are still there though, but they are activated much more quickly than in the final version.
Altitude Meter
(contributed by Crashspyro150)Not unlike CTR, this demo has an altitude meter that would pop up every time the kart was lifted from the ground (it is placed inside a red rectangle in this picture for easier reference).
Voodoo Doll
(contributed by Crashpro)An interesting feature in the demo is a removed power-up in the form of a voodoo doll. It surrounds you in a bright aura (complete with a heavenly choir) while giving you a short Team Frenzy-like effect, with unlimited power-ups for a short time. The explosions caused by these power-ups are very colorful. The icon for the voodoo doll is still present in the final version, and you can see it flashing among the other power-ups when you break a crate (it's easier to see it if you pause at the right time).
Thunder Bolt
(contributed by Bruno)The thunder bolt is the Static Orb's original form. It was only different in appearance.
Freeze Mine
(contributed by Bruno)- The freeze mine used to have a different icon that is still used in the Game Boy Advance version, as seen in the first screenshot.
- The juiced-up version of the icon is seen in the second screenshot.
- The third screenshot shows its actual form: a small crystal surrounded by blue fog.
Out of Mime
The demo calls the second track Out of Mime instead of Out of Time.
Out of Time
(contributed by Bruno)The ramps in Out of Time look different. There is also a giant hourglass floating up above. It flips constantly in mid-air.
Worm Hole Renovation
(contributed by Bruno)The three worms in Out of Time have different holes, resembling patches of dirt. They are still visible when hiding. If one of the worms eats you, the camera doesn't change angles like in the final version.Ambivalence
(contributed by Bruno)The Velo mask isn't present in the demo, so all characters who are protected by it in the final version are instead protected by Aku Aku. Uka Uka would have made more sense.
Loading
(contributed by Bruno)In the loading screen, the letters in "LOADING" fly from the right, just like in CTR, but in front of a plain, black background.
It's a Trap!
(contributed by Bruno)The fence in Out of Time that you can jump over is different. You can drive through it, but there's an invisible wall after that and there's no way past it. This suggests the track was incomplete at the time.
Wooden Gears
(contributed by Bruno)The windmills in Out of Time have a different sound effect.
Purplesplosions
(contributed by Bruno)Some power-up explosions, such as the static orb's, are purple.Lucky Shield
(contributed by Bruno)Sometimes when you use a shield, small energy spheres will fly in it. They automatically shoot at any racers. It isn't clear how that happens.
X crates
(contributed by Bruno)The "X" crates that give you multiple weapons aren't present in the demo.
AAARRRGH
(contributed by Bruno)There are many voice effects for the characters screaming quite loudly. They're not present in the final version.
