Crash Bandicoot - Waterfall level

This is one of a few lost levels that were scrapped early in development. They're all unnamed and unfinished, featuring themes, enemies, and mechanics not seen in the final game at all, as well as lacking crates and pick-ups. They were cut very early on, so even though they're still in the prototype's code, the only way to access them is with a hack.

It's a mostly vertical level in side-scrolling fashion.

Beginning

Beginning

You start out in a spot that resembles the river levels. There is an untextured platform in front of Crash that leads to a similarly untextured rocky wall. Crash must go there and climb it.

Hyena

Hyena

(contributed by Guy)

A hyena stands in the way. This enemy is solid and you can stand on it, but it has no animations and it doesn't hurt Crash, nor can it be defeated. It's nowhere to be seen in the retail version and was likely scrapped before they could do anything else with it.

Catapult

Catapult

The rocky walls begin to gain textures as Crash moves along, suggesting it was being textured from top to bottom. There are logs in this level that work as catapults. Crash stands on one end and a rock falls on the other one, launching Crash high up in the air. The big green and pink leaves are, like most of the scenery and objects in the level, unseen in the retail version.

Turtle/Water Wheel

Turtle/Water Wheel

The turtles from the final version are here, except they have no textures on their undersides. Some wooden wheels with two platforms rotate in front of a waterfall, which explains the theme of the level. Had it been finished, the waterfall would have flowed into the river from way up high.

Waterfall

Waterfall

The waterfall is fairly broken. It's visibly split up in some parts and the tiles on the left half flow in various directions, rather than just top to bottom.

Pedestals

Pedestals

Some rock pedestals will crumble and fall if Crash stands on them for too long.

Slopes

Slopes

There are slippery green slopes in some parts, not unlike the wooden ones in the native fortress levels from the retail version.

Carnivorous plant

Carnivorous plant

The carnivorous plant makes an appearance, but it seems a bit smaller here.

Waterwheel Logs 1

Waterwheel Logs 1

Some of the rotating wheels have logs on top that Crash needs to jump over. One of them is untextured.

Skunks

Skunks

The skunk from the retail version is here too, but it actually has an attack - it poots out stinky gas, much like you'd expect from a skunk. When jumped on, it displays a removed hurt animation, then shrinks down like in the retail version but much more slowly. For some reason, spinning it brings up the Wumpa counter.

Waterwheel Logs 2

Waterwheel Logs 2

Rotating wheels also have logs on the bottom. They're not positioned correctly, so the wooden platforms go straight through them.

Behind the Waterfall

Behind the Waterfall

A small portion of the level makes Crash go behind the waterfall.

Barricade/Trampoline Flowers

Barricade/Trampoline Flowers

A barricade is present in the background. These could be destroyed by Crash. Also present are big reddish flowers that launch Crash up high when he stands on them. The retail version probably has few objects of this kind because arrow crates already serve as trampolines.
