Crash Bandicoot IS BACK!

(Caution: Reading this article may cause dangerous levels of hype. If you experience symptoms such as heavy breathing, nervous shaking, or uncontrollable grinning, consult your doctor immediately.)

There is nothing like waking up to the news of Crash Bandicoot making a huge comeback. E3 did not disappoint, and we're about to witness a true revival of the series! We already knew about Crash coming to Skylanders Imaginators, and I'm happy to say that, as predicted, it's not the only thing happening with the series right now, and Crash is still going to have his own games like we fondly remember. Not the least of which is a remake of the original trilogy.

You read that right — 2017 will see the release of remakes for Crash 1, 2, and 3 by Vicarious Visions for the PlayStation 4, and boy, did they pick the right team for the job! Not only do they know how to make classic Crash work (and have done so in the past), but they're also behind all the Crash stuff in Skylanders Imaginators, which looks exceptionally faithful to the original Crash Bandicoot games. In fact, there's so much to discuss about Imaginators that it's getting its own separate article very soon, along with an entire section dedicated to it.

What a trip E3 must have been. I say it that way because I couldn't make it to the big moment, but I can only imagine what people must have felt when they heard the WARPED theme blast through the stage and watched Shawn Layden walking in with the bandicoot's shadow:

It's almost a given that Crash's design used in Skylanders is going to be used for the upcoming remakes, as it looks like a modernized version of Charles Zembillas's original design. Vicarious Visions has actually posted an article detailing the choices behind it, which is a really good read.

The only one of our guesses that didn't quite materialize was the theory that Sony owned Crash now, but they did the closest thing by waking up the brand and working with Activision towards a true revival. That said, considering they're taking a risk with all of this, we're not out of the woods yet... But if the new games are commercially successful, it will mean a bright new future for the series. It's up to us to show our support for the upcoming remake and send Sony and Activision the right idea.

Crash as he will appear in Skylanders Imaginators.Speaking of which, the fandom did a really great job at getting the higher-ups' attention over the past few years, and I believe it's because of our voice that Crash is returning. Movements like Bring Back Bandicoot (now aptly renamed Brought Back Bandicoot) did so much for Crash over the years, and I can't describe in mere words how much heart we fans put into this goal.

You can be sure that every single tidbit about the upcoming remakes (as well as the Crash stuff in Skylanders Imaginators) will be featured in Crash Mania, so from now on you can check back often for something I haven't done in years: Writing about new Crash games. I'm really excited for that too!

It's truly a great time to be a Crash fan.
