Crunch Bandicoot
Profile
- Species: Bandicoot (Peramelemorphia order)
- Gender: Male
- Alignment: Good
Description
Crunch is a super-strong bandicoot. He was genetically modified by Dr. Neo Cortex with the intention of destroying Crash Bandicoot, and he was supposed to become what Crash failed to be - a loyal bandicoot warrior and the head of Cortex's mutant army. Using the power of the Elementals, Crunch was supposed to have obliterated Crash, but thanks to the latter's joined efforts with Coco and Aku Aku, he got free of Cortex's mind control and history repeated itself.
In order to maintain his powerful physique, Crunch exercises whenever he gets the chance. Along with Tiny Tiger and Koala Kong, he is one of Cortex's strongest creations.
Variations
Crunch changes a lot depending on the developer. In some games, he is shown living with Crash and Coco in their house.
In the Radical Entertainment games, Crunch is a parody of Mr. T, a real-life actor. The way he speaks and most of his expressions are based on Mr. T's public service announcements, as well as BA Barracus (the character he played in the television show called The A-Team). The only difference is that Crunch blurts out advice at completely random times and with no context whatsoever, kind of like a verbal tic.
Trivia
Crunch wasn't originally intended to reappear after The Wrath of Cortex, but due to the concurrent development studios and shifts, he soon became a recurring character. His cameo in Crash Twinsanity was primarily included to not disappoint a die-hard fan at the time.
Progression
The Wrath of Cortex
Voiced by: Kevin Michael RichardsThe original design. It was also used in Twinsanity, albeit with a different model and some slight differences (the developers also accidentally made him appear much smaller than usual when putting him in that game).
Crash Nitro Kart, Purple
Voiced by: Kevin Michael RichardsCrunch's ears are slightly smaller and he no longer has lightning bolt-shaped eyebrows. His eyes have gone from green to blue, and his fur was changed from magenta to a dark, reddish brown. He doesn't have the cream-colored area on his left palm and his clothes were changed a bit. For instance, he is now wearing enormous boots.
Thanks to Crasharki for the picture.
Crash Tag Team Racing
Voiced by: Chris WilliamsCrunch's fur is even browner now, and the ears are also shorter (one of them is metallic too). The cream-colored fur doesn't connect from his chest to his mouth anymore, nor from his mouth to his nose. His abs are bigger and his clothes are slightly different.
Crash of the Titans
Voiced by: Chris WilliamsCrunch has reverted back to his magenta color in a taller and slimmer body. The shape of his head is similar to the previous model's, but it's smaller and his hair looks fluffier. The cream-colored fur on his muzzle connects to his nose again, and he also has it around the eyes and inside his ears now. His left ear is organic again. Thank you, science.
Crunch also has fangs, small claws and looks much less muscular than usual. His right arm is no longer simply metallic either, looking kind of futuristic. His torso has gained a few scars here and there. His boots are completely different.
Mind Over Mutant
Voiced by: Chris WilliamsCrunch was given yet another makeover. He looks like a mix between the two previous models. His hair is a full mohawk and the insides of his ears, as well as the areas around his eyes, are no longer cream-colored. His head and torso are larger, with less noticeable scars. His robotic arm is completely different again, having gotten much bigger and gone from a futuristic appearance to a steampunk look. His pants are now brown and the boots are different as usual.

Crunch takes after his Crash Nitro Kart design, albeit in higher detail and featuring a realistic in-game fur shader. Compared to that design, his mouth tends to sit lower than usual, his eyebrows are bushier, he has shorter legs, and his pecs and abs are less defined.
