Description
Large and in charge, Papu Papu leads a simple tribe native to N. Sanity Island. He spends most of his time sleeping and eating (in his native language, "papu papu" means "pass the dish again, mate"), and he's quick to greet any unwanted visitors with a large club. His enormous belly jiggles like no other, which has earned him the respect and awe of his fellow tribesmen.
Papu Papu and his warriors live in a small village behind a tall wooden gate, where they raise wild boars in pens. Despite his general lack of culture, he is capable of speaking simple English alongside his tribe's dialect.
Anecdotes
One of Papu Papu's prototype designs by Charles Zembillas depicted him as a tall, muscular warrior. However, Naughty Dog wanted a fat character because they thought it would be fun to animate someone with jiggly motions.- The ornament on Papu Papu's hair is yellow in promotional artwork for the original Crash Bandicoot, and this is also the case in some later games.

Papu Papu's original design is unchanged, but it's conveyed through a much more detailed 3D model.

Papu Papu's belly is even larger and rounder than before. His ornaments and loincloth are more detailed, and he has three red stripes on his belly, as well as some red marks on his arms. His toe nails have become white. He has five fingers on each hand and five toes on each foot.

Putting aside the substantial increase in polygons and detail, the jiggly tribesman's been to the nearest tattoo parlor and is now sporting a whole lot of body art. His head is less oblong, and the top of his eyes isn't covered by the hair ornament, which has become fancier. The red tattoos on his face are longer and he has one on his chin too. His nose is bigger, his mouth isn't triangular-shaped anymore, and his teeth are now visible, with the upper center ones having a gap between them. The necklace his brown instead of blue and sports tribal art similar to Papu Papu's tattoos.
Papu's loincloth is more revealing, making the much larger and fatter legs stand out when they always used to be obscured, as well as giving more prominence to his, well, butt. His finger and toe count has reverted.
