This was the first Crash Bandicoot game to have a different name for its PAL release.
The PAL name refers to the clothing size "Extra Small", or "XS", for short.
Most cutscenes are adapted stills from the Crash 3 cutscenes. Some mistakes were made during the adaptation process, such as Aku Aku lacking his goatee and a feather in the ending, and Dingodile having his Crash 3 pants when the Planetary Minimizer goes berserk.

Temple of Boom is a reference to the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
Uka Uka's line, "Crash has defeated three of your stooges!", is a reference to The Three Stooges show.
Music
All tracks except the ones from the intro cutscene and the bonus segments were taken from the Naughty Dog games, with every level setting borrowing the music from the corresponding setting in those games. The credit theme is the main theme from Crash Team Racing.
Except for Cortex, all bosses have their themes switched around: Dingodile has N. Gin's, N. Gin has Tiny's, and Tiny has Dingodile's.
