CTR: Crash Team Racing - General Findings

Lap Counter

The lap counter used to have a hyphen instead of a slash.

Removed Icons/Power-Ups

Removed Icons/Power-Ups

(contributed by Crashpro and Werelion2367)

The first 3 icons are for power-ups removed from the game. The first and third power-ups can be received in the demo through a GameShark code.

  • The first is a spring that made you hop extremely high for a single time.
  • The second one is hard to tell what it looks like, and its purpose hasn't been uncovered yet.
  • The third one is a red cross (it doesn't look red here because of the poor image quality), which is just an early icon for the shield power-up.
  • The four remaining icons are old versions of used power-ups. From left to right: Bowling Bomb, Missile, Aku Aku and Turbo.

Assorted Oddities 1

Assorted Oddities 1

  • The hill has "COCO" written with flowers.
  • The player appears to be in 2nd place, despite having so many racers in front.
  • Tiny is the character in use, but his icon is in 3rd place instead of 2nd.
  • There is an extra Tiny near the hill.
  • The original Bowling Bomb icon is shown.

All of these screenshots show Crash and Polar's original character icons. Not only that, but there isn't a single one in which the icons on the left match the player's current rank. Some of the screenshots sport previously mentioned changes, like the letters "COCO" flowers and the original bomb icon.

Warp Vortex

Warp Vortex

(contributed by The Real Deal)
  • The warp vortex is surrounded by a checkered pattern. This feature actually ended up being too heavy for the PlayStation hardware, so it ended up being removed.
  • The trophy floating inside the vortex is silver-colored instead of golden.

Lap Mishaps

Lap Mishaps

(contributed by The Real Deal)
  • The lap counter indicates the player is on the first lap, but it's impossible to get to this part of the track in such little time (0:00:98). Furthermore, the text below the timer indicates that the player has already completed 3 laps, which conflicts with the lap counter.
  • The boost bar is shown red, even though the player isn't power-sliding.

Losing to Yourself

(contributed by Superbandicoot)
  • The player is racing alone in these tracks. Surprisingly, he's still given a rank, and it's not even 1st place.
  • The early Turbo Boost icon is shown.

Roo's Green Tubes

Roo's Green Tubes

(contributed by R. Gin)
  • Roo's Tubes used to look a lot greener and had different structures around the glass ceiling.
  • The early Turbo Boost icon is shown.

Stubborn HUD

Stubborn HUD

(contributed by The Real Deal)
  • The numbers on top of the character icons are all shown red, which means everyone has already finished the race. The odd bit is that the entire HUD is still showing, so it might have remained on-screen after a race was over at first. This is further evidenced by the camera angle and Crash's position in the HUD - even though he's in front of Tiny, the icons indicate that Tiny is ahead of him. This most likely means that the HUD would freeze once a race was over.
  • Even though Crash has 10 Wumpa Fruits, the counter isn't glowing.

Oxide Station

(contributed by Crashnconker)
  • Screenshots 1 and 2: A removed portion of the track that would go from a ramp into one of four possible tubes.
  • Screenshots 3 to 5: The low-gravity area used to have turbo pads pointing at wrong directions. The middle bit had floor textures not used in the final version.
  • Screenshot 6: Right after the low-gravity area, the tunnel leading to the big fall used to be entirely covered in turbo pads, even on the walls and the ceiling.
  • Crash is racing alone, but numbers for other characters are still shown. This could be Time Trial mode, but the player is able to get weapons somehow.
  • Crash's original icon is shown.

Mine Carts

Mine Carts

(contributed by Crashnconker)

The lights of the carts in Dragon Mines used to be red instead of white.

Cortex's Airship

Cortex's Airship

(contributed by Dingodile555 and Crashnconker)
  • The airships used to have Cortex's face on them instead of Pinstripe's. Since Cortex already has his own track (Cortex Castle), this was probably changed so that it would become Pinstripe's.
  • The character positions are wrong.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer

(contributed by Crashb648 and WumpaZoner)
  • The first screenshot shows colored borders for each player's screen.
  • The second screenshot has the word "Points" instead of the usual skull icon.

Texture Issues

Texture Issues

(contributed by Crashb648 and Hacc)
  • The fence on the left is pinkish due to a texture bug.
  • Crash is the only one driving the track, yet position numbers for other characters are still shown. Hacc explains: "The reason for the numbers being displayed like that is because they have the number of players playing value set as 1P in VS. mode."

Different Start Lights

Different Start Lights

(contributed by Crashb648)The start lights at the beginning of each race used to look different.

Unique Start Lines

Unique Start Lines

(contributed by Crashpro)

The start line in each track used to be unique. For some reason, they were all changed to the ribbon saying "CTR" in the final version.

Tiger Temple
Tiger Temple

Tiger Temple

(contributed by Crashpro)

When the game was roughly 30% complete, some parts of the scenery seemed to be covered in ice or something blue (left screenshot). A big ol' moon used to shine in the sky (right screenshot).

Why is the Gin Gone?

Why is the Gin Gone?

(contributed by Matibandicoot)
  • This screenshot shows a 4-player race with N. Gin somewhere on the map (and no other people), yet N. Gin isn't part of the roster.
  • The original missile icon is shown on the top-right corner.
