Profil
- Species: Eastern Barred Bandicoot (Perameles Gunni)
- Gender: Female
- Alignment: Good
Description
Tawna is Crash Bandicoot's love interest. Like Crash, she was snatched from the jungle and zapped with the Evolvo-Ray as per Dr. Neo Cortex's orders, thus gaining a human-like appearance and traits, as well as becoming tough as nails. After one too many failed attempts with Crash, Cortex decided to make her the general of his mutant animals, but she was rescued before the mad scientist was able to control her mind. As a result, she's more down to Earth than most of Cortex's mutants.
Although she didn't become the leader of Cortex's minions, Tawna is now in charge of a group of female bandicoots called the Nitro Squad.
Anecdotes
- Like Crash, Tawna was originally designed as a wombat. She had a vastly different design and a more ditzy personality, and her original name was Karmen.
- Tawna's design was changed from the concept art after concerns by Universal Interactive Studio were raised regarding her sexy appearance and outfit in a family game.
- Tawna was discarded after the first game as an effort by Naughty Dog to please Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, who were not comfortable with Crash having a sexy girlfriend. Coco was soon introduced as the new female character, albeit playing a completely different role and relationship with Crash.
- The story about Crash and Tawna's relationship was elaborated in Japan. The manuals there, as well as some of the in-game text and official mangas, explain that Tawna left Crash for Pinstripe Potoroo. This is not considered part of the canon in the West, as no mention of these events are made in any game or manual outside Japan.
- Prior to the N. Sane Trilogy, Tawna had blue eyes in Japan.
- A portrait of Tawna appears inside Crash's house in Warped and The Wrath of Cortex.
- The Moulin Cortex sign in Twinsanity depicts Tawna in a burlesque uniform along with Cortex.
- Tawna also appears in a poster inside Crash's house in Mind Over Mutant.
- Unlike most mutants in the series, Tawna and the other Nitro Squad members don't have last names. Her default skin in Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is called Tawna Bandicoot, but the character proper is still just called Tawna, so this is likely a mistake.
