The game's title is a pun on the movie Clash of the Titans.
The title of the first episode, A New Hop, is a pun on A New Hope, a Star Wars movie. Additionally, Uka Uka says "A tremor in the Mojo! The last time I felt it was in the presence of my older brother, Aku Aku.", which is a reference to one of Darth Vader's lines in this movie: "A tremor in the Force. The last time I felt it, was in the presence of my old master.".
There are many references to The Wizard of Oz. The book's title is parodied with The Blizzard of Claws. There is a level called The Emerald Pity, a pun on The Emerald City. Don't Eat the Yellow Brick Load refers to the line "Follow the yellow brick road", and the Doom Monkeys sometimes say "I'm melting! I'm melting! Oh, what a world, what a world!" which is said by the Wicked Witch of the West as she dies.
Doom Monkeys sometimes scream "LEEEEEROOOOYYY!!" while charging at Crash, a reference to the infamous World of Warcraft player and Internet phenomenon, Leroy Jenkins.
N. Gin sometimes sings the Doom Song from the animated show Invader Zim.
After being defeated, some Doom Monkeys say "Two more will take my place!", which was first said by an executive in The Simpsons. Doom Monkeys also sometimes say "D'oh!", Homer Simpson's famous annoyed grunt.
Sometimes Doom Monkeys will quote the song The End by The Doors upon defeat.
The Voodoo Bunnies' in-game description parodies Gizmo from the movie Gremlins.
One of the Mojo Rooms is named Smells Like Green Spirits, a reference to the song Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Crash's tantrum when he spots N. Gin's statue is a parody the ending in the original Planet of the Apes movie, where Taylor curses upon discovering the Statue of Liberty.
