Slip Slide Icecapades

These screenshots were taken from the video above. Slip Slide Icecapades had a completely different layout.

  • There are locked crates in the first screenshot and the HUD was still made of plain text.
  • Crash and Cortex had some weird animations going on, with cartoony stars and a mess of limbs.
  • There are lots of rocket penguins launching sideways. Notice also the support arm from the Iceberg Lab.
  • Surprisingly, Crash and Cortex can hit Nitro crates without getting harmed, though probably for testing purposes.

Gone a Bit Coco

Gone a Bit Coco

This is a removed level called Gone A Bit Coco, where Cortex would battle through Coco's mind, a place full of cuddly enemies and nonsensical cuteness. These screenshots show just how wacky that level would have been, and were taken from the same build as the previous ones.

The players never get to control Crash and Cortex in this part of Cavern Catastrophe, because the two of them automatically roll inside the crater in the middle. This is right in the beginning of the level, after the Mecha Bandicoot battle. Cortex looks like he's chasing Crash. Perhaps he'd chase him before fighting him, instead of the automatic cutscene shown in the final version.

Cut Amok

Cut Amok

This Doc Amok scene doesn't appear in the final version, but it probably evolved into Totem Hokum. The dirt is a lot more extensive and there is no water at all. Cortex is placed much higher than in the final version, and he's doing a different animation (the same as the Doc Amok picture in the manual). The mantrap up above suggests that the level might have occurred against the screen at times, as seen in concept art for the game.

Farmer Ernest's barn changed its location during development. It used to be near the beach and close to Cavern Catastrophe's exit. This explains why it's there in the FMV cutscene after that level. Other differences in these screenshots include:

  • Crash grabbing Cortex by his hand.
  • Cortex holding the Power crystal, even when separated from Crash.
  • An open barn with hay inside.

Tikimon

Tikimon

(contributed by Crashnconker)
  • Tikimon used to do display more animations than in the final version, such as spinning his head around. He also seems to suck air into his mouth at one point. Since Crash threw Cortex at his mouth in this instant, maybe this was how you defeated him at first, without having to break all the small tiki men.
  • Cortex slides around without animating.
  • The dirt around Tikimon isn't present.

HUD

HUD

(contributed by Mechabandicoot)
  • Some early pictures have the word "WUMPA" instead of the fruit icon in the HUD.
  • This camera angle is never seen in the game.
